We've lost our minds - Vacation in Florida IN THE SUMMER????

Well it's official. We have completely lost our minds.

I can't stand the hot hot hot Florida summers, not a fan of standing in line for over a hour to ride It's a Small World and I swear I'll blow a gasket if someone steps on my foot or rams a stroller up my back side BUT let's go do Disney World.

Ok ok lets start from our booking. It's Myself - Karen or mummy to DD Cassandra and DH Patrick.

It's February 2010. Winter should be in full swing but this year so far we've only had 1 snow storm and that couldn't really be called a storm - maybe just an annoyance. We had already decided NOT - yes that's right - NOT to go to Disney World at all this year since we had already been both to Disney World and on our very first Disney Cruise last spring. So this was our Disney off year.

We asked my Aunt if she would like to come with us via train (first time for dd, dh and myself) to Quebec City, Canada for a week and she thought that would be a lovely holiday. So I went ahead and booked a wonderful week filled with lots of things we have done before on our previous 3 trips in 6 years to Quebec plus some things that we haven't done.

Then my mother in law and I were talking about how dh and I always drive to WDW since dd was born and that we were going to go back to taking our Disney trips in January's since I'm not a good summer person and the cooler temps, low crowds and cheaper rates could mean that we could go back to going every year. And really, who doesn't love that

So anyways MIL was telling me about the route that they used to take when her kids were little and they would drive from Toronto Canada to Florida to visit her brother over the Christmas holidays. We have always driven down the 77/95 Buffalo route but MIL told me they turned off and headed through Richmond Virginia to avoid the mountains since they could be very bad in the winter.

Perfect. We're not going to Disney this year so why don't we book a week or so in Virginia to test the route and have a nice vacation at the same time.So off i go booking a week at the end of July. DH has 5 weeks vacation this year thanks to saving 1 from last year (and at this point in time I can't remember why we saved a week)

So the beginning of July, Quebec and the end, Virginia. We'll deal with the other weeks later and may go camping or just stay around Toronto and do a bunch of things at home. After a couple of days of looking at things to do in Richmond we came to the conclusion that while Virginia is very nice there is a lot of military things and not a lot of other things we're all that interesting in doing with a 4 year old girl. Change of plans. Why not add a couple of days in Savannah????We drive through it every Disney year and always say we should stay a couple of days so this is our chance. Now we're 4 nights in Richmond and 3 in Savannah. Perfect...........

"Honey" says dh."Do you think we can visit my Aunt while we're down there?"Aunt lives in Florida. About 30-45 minutes inland from Daytona Beach. Her husband passed away last summer and we haven't seen her since.

"of course we can. Savannah is only about 4 or 5 hours drive from her why don't you take another week and we'll visit her for a day or so and maybe stay at Daytona Beach too."We're being good and staying away from Disney. Dh takes the extra week and we rearrange the hotels and days splitting the week between VA and GA and I start looking at hotels in Daytona Beach.

HOLY COW the last time we stayed in Daytona was when dd was only a baby and it was in May. I had NO idea the cost of hotels jumped sooooo much for the summer months.NO WAY we're paying over $250 a night when we're used to paying 20-30 because dh works for Hilton and if you book early enough you can get those rates at most hotels but because we're now into March and have missed the employee booking window there aren't any rooms available at those rates.

One night I'm watching tv when a Disney commercial comes on. Book before the end of March for 5 nights and get a gift card in xx amount depending on if you stay deluxe, moderate or value. hummmmmm really.

"ahhhhh honey" I say ever so sweetly.

"yes dear" comes back the response in just as sickly sweet tone

"you know....... your Aunt only lives an hour and a half from Orland"

"yes"

"and you know...... Orlando is only about half an hour's drive from Lake Buena Vista"

"yes. i think your right"

"sooooooo honey...... I'm going to book a few days at Disney World " like he had a choice. I was sitting on the site working out the days as i was talking to him LOL. It was done. That night I booked us in for 7 nights and we were good to go.

And that brings us to today. 1 week before our train trip to Quebec.I'm looking forward to each segment of our vacation but who's kidding who?? we're ALL really looking forward to the shortest Disney trip we've ever taken.

What's wrong with my brain.

It seems like my brain or at least my subconscious is working overtime to make my cravings clear and present.

Whenever I make a decision to go on a diet or change my routine or whatever my subconscious jumps in and puts up walls up.

The past few nights I have found myself in the kitchen making toast or a peanut butter sandwich sometime after 9pm. I also find I'm craving my favourite cookies 'n cream chocolate bars.

I do hope this is a temporary thing because I just made my decision but gees I need to retrain by brain to crave water more

On the plus side we're going away for the entire month of July so I'll get a hell of a lot of walking done and lots to see that will help keep my mind off food then I'm only back a week before my surgery date.

We've also just opened our pool so we can get out after dinner for an hour swim which will help tire both Cassie and myself out for a good sleep.

The beginning

Wow. it's been a long time coming but I've finally taken the steps to becoming healthy and fit again.

So lets start where it all began.

I was 25 and went to the dr for what i thought was a routine check up. My regular dr was taking a year off for family so I had a stand in. She did some tests and wanted me to do more. I had been having some problems with my AF over the past year which was very unusual since you could set your clock by my 28 day 8am wake up call.

When all was said and done this dr informed me that not only did i have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) but would probably never have children.

Why didn't she just shot me in the heart. All I ever wanted was to have a child since as far back as I could remember.

The started me down the deep dark depression (3d's) path. For over 5 years I maintained a somewhat social life with my friends but never really wanted a relationship with anyone. After-all, who'd want someone who couldn't have children.

My friends had kids whom I adored and treated almost as if they were mine but lets face it.... they weren't.

Along with the 3D's and over the 5-7 years I gained and lost over 75lbs then gained some more. I finally broke out of the depression around 32 or 33 and started looking at relationships again.

This is when I met Patrick. My love. He was wonderful, caring, and didn't give a shit that I was overweight.

On his plus side, he ran marathons, loved life and liked to travel. On the negative - he's a chef. Or is that a positive since i hate to cook. He loves to cook... healthy and not so healthy foods.

When we got married in 2004 I was 100lbs over my early 20's weight. Not totally loving it but ok with it and hoping to lose some. After the wedding we had made an appointment with a fertility specialist to see exactly what the problem was and if it could be fixed. Well apparently it could be fixed because 1 month later I was pregnant with Cassandra.

Throughout my pregnancy I had really bad morning sickness. The best it got was once a day... the worst - 3 times a day. Every day. For the entire pregnancy.

Needless to say I lost a lot of weight from conception to about the 7 month mark when I started gaining it all back and then some. By the time I gave birth I was 40lbs heavier then when I got married and this is where i'm at today.

It's been 4 1/2 years since having Cassie and I haven't lost a single pound. In fact I've gained another 15lbs since last year.

So.................... Recently I've decided to go for the very expensive Slimband/Lapband surgery. Not nearly as invasive as Gastric bypass, reversible and controllable.

It's a huge step and not an easy out by any means. After years and years of diets that fail I just don't have the energy anymore to get motivated.

I want to be healthy for my daughter and if possible have another child which just isn't happening at this weight.

My goal. To lose 140lbs.

While I won't talk about how much I do weigh I will say that at 5'8" I will look great if I lose the 140lbs.

I've called the slimband clinic and will be scheduling a mid August appointment. We are going away for the entire month of July so August is the earliest I can do this.

From now until then I am trying hard not to eat the portion sizes I'm used to but it's giving me major headaches when I don't so I have to balance the two so I don't get sick.

When I get brave enough I'll post some current pictures of myself but I'm just not comfortable doing that right now.

So there it is - I've put it out into the wide expanses of the Internet.

Thanks for reading.
